How Amy Sangster’s New Venture MemberUp Is A Win For Creators

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Sangster.

It’s an honor to speak with you today. Why don’t you give us some details about you and your story. How did you get to where you are today?

I was studying finance at an Australian college when a friend offered to teach me how to trade. Being that I was desperate to find an alternative to the bank job I had at the time, I pushed myself to learn quickly and found I was able to make enough money to replace my bank job income within the first year. Through trading + an eBay business I started around the same time, I was able to create time freedom early on. With that, I started a YouTube channel with my partner which really took off through a series of viral videos we made. Although I never dreamt of starting an online education business, the demand we had to learn to trade from our YouTube audience of over 100 million people naturally led me in that direction. I learned the value of authentic content marketing and grew that business to multiple 7 figures over the next 8 years.

In 2019 my co-founder and I decided to close that business as we’d evolved into different people with different interests and felt it was time for a new challenge. Being that I’m a creator at heart, that led me to start 2 new ventures serving the creator economy. MemberUp – a custom subscription platform for creators and Unemployed Media – a media company for entrepreneurs. I’m also currently partnered with BossBabe as their Head of Product.

I’m sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?

My partner passed away from pancreatic cancer at 24. Dealing with losing a loved one at any age, let alone so young isn’t something I’d wish upon anyone. Although it was the hardest thing I’ve ever faced, there’s not a day that goes by that I’m not grateful for the new outlook on and appreciation for life that situation gave me.

Let’s talk about the work you do. What do you specialize in and why should someone work with you over the competition?

Having seen the results we’ve created in the membership space, me and my team found ourselves with a lot of demand for custom membership development, marketing, and management. This is why we created MemberUp- a membership platform uniquely branded to each creator we partner with.

We have been in the unique position of not only being a creator but also working on the other side with all of us being involved in servicing other creators’ businesses. We know the value of relationships in the creator space. We understand the content formats that can garner attention to make a membership successful. We know what will resonate with creators in terms of ease of use and the membership experience. We all have seen firsthand what takes a creator from 0-1 million followers or from 5 figures in revenue to 8. Finally having a collective of product, marketing, and business experience between the three of us, we have a unique perspective but can also execute at a high level on the concept. Our level of care for both creator’s and members’ experience is unmatched.

What’s your best piece of advice for readers who desire to find success in their life?

Get out of your own way. Overcoming the voice inside your head is one of the hardest but most important things you’ll ever do. Only once you get past yourself can you truly lead others.

Speaking of success, what does the word mean to you?

Certainly not what my old YouTube channel would lead you to believe! Materialism means nothing when you’re faced with a cancer diagnosis at 22. Success to me nowadays is to wake up each day inspired to work with the people around me on something I truly care about. I’m very thankful I’m doing just that.

What’s next for you?

Serving the creator economy by building MemberUp into the best membership product on earth.

Finally, how can people connect with you if they want to learn more?
