Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert B Foster.
It’s an honor to speak with you today. Why don’t you give us some details about you and your story. How did you get to where you are today?
Robert Foster is a man of incomparable strength and resilience. Being someone who has been through his fair share of hardships, he was able to walk away with a deeper understanding of his life purpose. As a matter of fact, he would not have become the motivational and inspirational figure he is today if he had not hit rock bottom. Looking back, the difficulties he faced in the past were nothing but formative tools carving out his path to success. He’s had 7 surgeries (including donating a kidney to his sister). He’s dealt with foreclosure, repossession, divorce, having to move his business multiple times, and sometimes felt he didn’t deserve success. His passion is now showing others how to embrace public speaking, owning your failures in life while using the teachable moments to inspire others, and ultimately helping you to forgive yourself for any wrongs you may have committed.
I’m sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?
Starting my fitness business in 2009 during the recession. Being a college dropout I traveled the country to learn marketing and branding from the best in the industry. Starting with poor credit, no savings, no spousal support, and no business background. Had to move my gym 7 times before I was able to open my own location. Suffered a major knee injury shortly after walking away from corporate and was told that I would never run or jump again. I’ve done over 160 races/track meets since that diagnosis.
Let’s talk about the work you do. What do you specialize in and why should someone work with you over the competition?
I help aspiring speakers craft their core messaging using their personal stories. I am a certified speaker, storytelling coach, and also a certified facilitator in True Colors. I honestly have no competition as my services are unique to the individual using their own experiences and personality type to find the power in their stories. I then help them craft a powerful and inspirational story or keynote presentation using my proven 4 step methodology. I work with other trained speakers to take their storytelling to the next level and beyond. In this space, there is no one better and I can say that with confidence.
What’s your best piece of advice for readers who desire to find success in their life?
To truly define what success means to THEM. Too many times we try to live up the expectations of other people and that will lead to you being unfulfilled. Know what you want and be very specific about what you want your life to look like for you and your family. No amount of money can overcome the feeling of being unfulfilled so do what lights your soul on fire!
Speaking of success, what does the word mean to you?
Success to me means doing what I want to do, when I want to do it. I don’t need a fancy house or cars. I was never motivated by material things. I want time freedom. I want to never miss any of my kids activities. I want to travel often. I want to enjoy nature. I want to give back to the community and I want to leave a legacy behind for my kids to continue.
What’s next for you?
I will be starting a speaking tour in colleges/universities for college juniors/seniors teaching about the importance of mastering how to tell their personal stories to better position themselves for success as they enter the workforce.
