Today we’d like to introduce you to Obeilson Matos.
It’s an honor to speak with you today. Why don’t you give us some details about you and your story. How did you get to where you are today?
After getting my BA in science, my first job in finance was as an Account Executive for Wells Fargo, a couple Branch Manager roles until the financial crisis hit. During the Financial crisis, I started a successful non-profit to help homeowners keep their homes. Eventually worked consulting for a Brazilian company that had a digital coin project while at the same time, I started putting together small RE sindications and developed a few properties. In 2017, I started Solstice Venture Properties to continue to pursue my real state goals. I am currently working on the pre-launch of Sqfcoin, a digital blockchain based Real Estate tokenization platform that allows cryptocurrency holders to convert them into digital Real Estate.
I’m sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?
Many challenges, I was born in Brazil to a middle class family, took an opportunity to come and learn English in the US and turned it into a 4 years Bachelor of Science. Learned my way into the financial sector, learned to work with lawyers and litigation in the non-profit, I failed plenty. As a minority immigrant you have to be better than average to stand out and make your mark with courage, determination, desire to help your fellow man and contribute to the community. These are great motivators to help you overcome the obstacles along the way.
Let’s talk about the work you do. What do you specialize in and why should someone work with you over the competition?
I enjoy the challenges of a good RE project, from financing it, rehabbing then with my network of independent contractors, managing tenants to their sale to the open market. Experience, Skill and a know-how are very important but more than anything is truly caring for my partners and investors that I may work with.
What’s your best piece of advice for readers who desire to find success in their life?
Be true to yourself, find a good problem to solve and do your best to solve it. Be happy with what you have and understand what truly motivates you.
Speaking of success, what does the word mean to you?
God in our lives, a loving family and true friends. Everything else is nothing but a cherry on the top.
