Why Staci Vanzant Sees Recovery as Part of Sustainable Performance

The Problem With Pushing Through

There is a particular kind of competence that can hide exhaustion.

Healthcare professionals keep seeing patients. Therapists remain present for clients. Educators walk into classrooms and continue giving their attention to students. From the outside, everything may appear to be working.

Staci Vanzant believes that is precisely why chronic stress among helping professionals deserves a closer look.

Vanzant, LCSW, NBC-HWC, is a licensed therapist, board certified health and wellness coach, and founder of Living Mindfully, LLC. After more than two decades working in the mental health field, she is expanding her work into keynote speaking, workshops, corporate wellness programming, and restorative retreats.

Her central argument is straightforward: people cannot build sustainable careers around continually giving without meaningful recovery.

Rethinking What Strength Looks Like

For many professionals, endurance is rewarded. The person who handles the difficult case, covers another responsibility, or remains available when others need help can quickly become indispensable.

There is value in commitment. There is also a cost when recovery is continually postponed.

“Those who spend their lives caring for others often become the last people they care for,” Vanzant says. “My mission is to help the helpers help themselves by making self care a professional strength rather than a personal luxury. When caregivers are supported, everyone benefits.”

That distinction matters. Vanzant is moving the conversation away from self care as an occasional escape from work and toward practices that help people recognize chronic stress, regulate their response to it, establish healthier boundaries, and preserve energy for the long term.

Living Mindfully currently provides therapy, coaching, and mindfulness focused services. Vanzant’s broader work extends those principles into professional settings where stress can become embedded in the culture of the job.

Building a Career That Can Last

The company has completed its second retreat and is accepting reservations for future experiences. Vanzant’s participation in Speakpreneur’s speaker development event also marks a new phase as she brings her message to conferences and organizations.

The larger idea has relevance well beyond wellness programming.

Sustainable performance requires more than asking how much someone can accomplish. It requires considering how long they can continue working at that level without losing their health, relationships, or connection to the reason they entered the profession.

For Vanzant, recovery belongs inside that conversation.

The goal is not to make helping professionals less committed. It is to help them remain capable of doing meaningful work without disappearing inside it.
