It’s an honor to speak with you today. Why don’t you give us some details about you and your story. How did you get to where you are today?
His Facebook posts also reach 165,000 comments individually. 50,000 of his story are not lost on Instagram. In the last year the poet of love has also depopulated on Spotify and, to date, his poems recited count over 6 million plays. Numbers in the norm for an influencer, but the numbers of social media are by Don Cosimo Schena, a small artistic-musical phenomenon, a priest with a unique and unmistakable timbre, able to catalyze the attention of the listener, intertwining his words with music that manages to make any heart vibrate. This is the secret of the success of a “peripherypriest” – as he defines himself – who uses poems as a bridge to reach those hearts far from God.
I’m sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?
Born in 1979 and a course of study that began in the engineering faculty, Don Cosimo felt his vocation in 2009, when he became a priest. His passion for knowledge led him to obtain a degree in Philosophy and for a few years he can finally share, with the faithful and not, his vocation for God and his talent aimed at poetry. Among the most followed priests on social media, Don Cosimo Schena is at the head of a real cultural revolution: with his verses of love to the rhythm of music, on Spotify he rejuvenates the old stereotypes that characterize the church, rhyming his love for God and thus becoming the creator of an unparalleled viral phenomenon. “It all started like this – he said – a few years ago, they contacted me to participate in a poetry competition. I didn’t win, but they asked me to write eight poems to collect in a series, later made in audio format. From there, thanks to the support of my parishioners, I decided to get involved and started reading my poems on social networks. The favor of the public has come in a completely unexpected way.”
Let’s talk about the work you do. What do you specialize in and why should someone work with you over the competition?
With stories, poetry after poetry, the social channels of the poet of love reach important numbers at an increasingly pressing pace. “They ask me for advice, prayers, a word of comfort and come back to tell me how their experience went. I think there is a widespread need for love, so I always try to respond to all those who write to me. It excites me to be a point of reference, proximity and support for thousands of young people who follow me on social media”. At the center of all his compositions is love, the universal, disruptive one, with a capital A. The recipe for his digital triumph is given by the multifaceted facets with which his poems can be interpreted. “Personally I am referring to God, but everyone can decline my words for relationships and personal relationships depending on their experience,” says the Apulian priest who managed to clear the idea of a virtual parish, from offline to online. “Thanks to social media, my message of faith and hope for the future is made available to everyone and can also reach those who are far from God”.

Never give up. To believe in what they dream of. Perseverance always rewards.
