Buckingham Palace has confirmed that American singer Lionel Richie will be invited to the coronation ceremony of King Charles III on May 6 at Westminster Abbey. Richie has been the global ambassador of Charles’ charitable Prince’s Trust, a charity founded by Charles, since 2019. He is also confirmed to be one of the headliners at a concert that will take place in the grounds surrounding Windsor Castle on the day following the coronation. The coronation guest list has been tightly guarded, but an excerpt released on Monday by officials revealed that other celebrities have been invited. These include Kelly Jones, the lead singer of Stereophonics and Jay Blades who is the presenter of “The Repair Shop”, a hit BBC series.
Charles is reported to have chosen “meritocratic, not aristocratic,” criteria for the coronation, reflecting modern British life. According to reports, the guest list includes representatives from charitable organizations that are supported by King Charles and Queen Camilla as well as those who have received the British Empire Medal for their good works.
Westminster Abbey will host the coronation ceremony of King Charles III on May 6. In 1953, thousands of people attended the coronation of Charles’s mom, Queen Elizabeth II. Charles’ coronation is being scaled back due to the COVID-19 epidemic. The number of attendees will be limited to 2,000.
