Lansing, Michigan’s Very Own Youngest Black Owned Nail Salon Owner Dymond Brown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dymond Brown.

It’s an honor to speak with you today. Why don’t you give us some details about you and your story. How did you get to where you are today?

Thank you, my name is Dymond Brown, I am a two time nail salon owner in Lansing, MI. Not to mention I am the first black owned nail salon in Lansing, MI that offers walk in nail services. I am a licensed nail technician of 4 years and quickly realized my worth in my nail career and knew exactly what I wanted to do. I became a nail instructor and also wanted to focus on the business side of things and help other entrepreneurs with their road map to becoming successful nail salon owners. It took exactly as long as I am a licensed nail technician, four years to figure things out. I’ve worked in plenty of salons. I then compared and contrasted over the years of how I’d operate things in my own salon in an effective and efficient way.

I’m sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?

Whew… financial, personal, mental, almost anything you can think of came my way. Not being able to pay booth rent, No babysitter to go to work, Very close deaths in the family, it’s really been no joke. I had to save serious money, and get my life in order to achieve my goals. You literally have to be a brick wall and handle business no matter what.

Let’s talk about the work you do. What do you specialize in and why should someone work with you over the competition?

Physically, I specialize in acrylic nail services and teaching master nail classes which helps nail technicians with certain techniques to cut down production time and perfect their craft. On the business savvy side of things, I ultimately show entrepreneurs how to open a successful operating nail salon, so all the things you need to know to open a nail salon.

What’s your best piece of advice for readers who desire to find success in their life?

Be patient and be consistent. Success is not overnight you will overcome so many obstacles until you reach the success your life desires.

Speaking of success, what does the word mean to you?

Success to me means having goals and mastering them, accomplishing what it takes to get to your next level. You have to take action to accomplish success. Don’t forget to make sure your vision is clear on the success you want as well.

What’s next for you?

I’m working on my first E- Book! I’m looking to release it around the first of the year, It has to be perfect. I can’t say much just wait on it but ultimately more nail salons, more classes, networking events, and giving back to my community, or I should say involving myself in more community activities. I have a lot of work to do!
