It’s an honor to speak with you today. Why don’t you give us some details about you and your story. How did you get to where you are today?
I spent 12yrs working at the post office in Harlem NY. Making a guaranteed 70k a year with full benefits & even had 1 of the easiest routes. Yet, I wasn’t satisfied. The post office is one of the hardest jobs in America. It’s a miracle how the mail & packages get delivered every day. You got to deal with management, customers, & bad weather. No way, I’m retiring with good physical & mental health. One good thing about working in Harlem NY is that you’re sounded by culture & knowledge. After work, I would go to the classes, lectures, & debates. Even during work after I finish my route I would hang out on 125st & listen to the Gods preach across from the Apollo Theater. I knew I was destined to be here but being a mailman wasn’t my fate. It seemed like most of the teachers I looked up to knew everything, yet were struggling financially. I always wanted to help lift my people up, but I wasn’t down to be no poor righteous teacher. I liked being fly. I used to swag-out my uniform. So, I just took my love for fashion & combined it with my passion for ancient culture and came up w/ Ancient Aura Jewelry. I thought why can’t I drop jewels & sell jewels at the same time. In 2017, I decided to quit my job at the post office, & in 4 years created a 7 figure business.
I’m sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?
As a creative it’s easy for me to come up with new ideas & concepts. But, running a business was very new to me. Dealing with book-keeping, accounting, taxes was very challenging for me. So, I had to learn to hire help, but then the process of understanding payroll, disability, insurance & other state requirements was something else I had conquer.
Let’s talk about the work you do. What do you specialize in and why should someone work with you over the competition?
Here at Ancient Aura Jewelry we make fashion jewelry. But, what separates us from everybody else is that we specialize in making jewelry specifically based on African Culture & Spirituality. So we what to make shiny things that appeal to the younger crowd but we also want to educate them in the process. Some of our best sellers are our Malcolm X, Huey P Newton, & Kemetic ANKH Chains.
What’s your best piece of advice for readers who desire to find success in their life?
“Your Biggest Insecurity Is Usually Your Greatest Asset”. Basically, what people are insecure about usually is their divine uniqueness. It’s their gift given to them from the creator. The goal is to expose that gift to the world & carry the cross of criticism, judgment, & shame. Even if it’s only self imposed or in your own head. Then you’ll realize that people identify more with your weaknesses more than your strengths. That’s how you attract your tribe, create a movement, and find your niche customer.
Speaking of success, what does the word mean to you?
To me, success has to more than an achieved end goal. True Success is about learning how to enjoy the journey, sharing new experiences, & creating balance. So, as long as your life has purpose then everything you desire will fall into place.
What’s next for you?
The next frontier beyond the internet is the Metaverse. Which is nothing but internet in a virtual reality space. So, this may sound crazy, but Ancient Aura Jewelry plans to go digital. Creating digital NFT’s as collectible & wearable art for peoples crypto wallets & avatars.
