Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Scott.
It’s an honor to speak with you today. Why don’t you give us some details about you and your story. How did you get to where you are today?
My name is Stephanie Scott. I am from Rocky Mount North Carolina. I have three kids. I moved my family to Greensboro North Carolina for a better living. I use to work at a nursing home , and then covid hit. I continued to work during covid, then I got covid. I was out of work for about a month. The company did not call to check on me, no card, no mail, not anything. Then I thought to myself, why am I working for a company that would not even give me a courtesy call to see if I needed anything, or if I was even alive. There were millions dying from covid all around the world, and if I would have died, the company would have easily just replaced me. So that was my wake up call. I told myself that day “I’m going to be my own boss, I can either spend the rest of my life building someone else’s dream, or take a chance and build my own.” I choose to build my own! I used my stimulus checks to pay my tuition in full at J Evans Beauty Academy of Natural Hair. I begin to promote my products and advertise my work on social media, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. Now I am two years in, and I am grateful to have a consistent and loyal clientele, and some of the best all natural products in the industry made exclusively by RastaaLocs.
I’m sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?
Well inflation hit hard, everything went up. Ingredients for our products went up, container prices went up, cost of goods went up, I mean everything went up! This left me with no choice but to increase the cost of my services. I made it through, thank God. Not only was I able to make it through, I was able to purchase my first home! The transition was challenging as far as business goes, but I was able to overcome it all. I had to become a very savvy business woman. I started buying in bulk for better discounts. I started monitoring my finances, and I even hired a business coach (Select Coaching) to help me get through this process. Luckily my clients adjusted to all the changes and I was relieved. I moved into my new home so seamlessly, the transition for my clients went well too, and I am so grateful for that.
Let’s talk about the work you do. What do you specialize in and why should someone work with you over the competition?
I specialize in Natural hair, and I am a Natural Hair Care Specialist. I am State Board Certified and I am a Loctician by trade. A loctician is someone who specialize in locs, dreadlocks, and just about anything and everything in regards to locs. I am responsible for not only the maintenance of my clients locs, but I educate them as well. I have A1 customer service skills, very professional and experienced.
What’s your best piece of advice for readers who desire to find success in their life?
To never give up on what you want out of YOUR life. I believe you can overcome anything in life if you are willing to do what it takes to better yourself. If you have to move out of your hometown, then do it! If you have to go back to school, then do it! It will all be beneficial in the long run. You can be your own BOSS. I am convinced that everybody has a talent the world needs. Therefore, never be afraid to step out faith and just do it!
Speaking of success, what does the word mean to you?
Success to me means breaking generational curses, taking care of my family, and having something to pass down to my kids for the next generation. I can’t wait to see my children reap from the seeds I have sown from all my hardwork and dedication over the years. Therefore success to me is not just what I can accomplish in my life, but what I can leave for my children, grandchildren and beyond.
What’s next for you?
I plan on continuing to master my craft not only as a loctician, but also in the beauty supply industry as a whole. I love doing locs, so I will definitely continue to make my customers smile and provide top tier service.
