From IRS Insider to Business Ally: How Pietro Canestrelli Built a Purpose-Driven Brand

An Unlikely Career Shift That Sparked a Mission

Pietro Canestrelli never expected to leave government service and become a national voice for taxpayers. But after six years with the IRS and time in private practice, he realized he wanted more than to enforce rules — he wanted to protect the people behind the numbers.

That realization became the foundation for America’s Tax Defender, Inc., a tax resolution company he co-founded with his wife Kristen, who leads as founder.

“I knew the system — but I also knew how much better it could serve people,” Pietro explains.

The Rise of a Human-Centered Tax Strategy Company

America’s Tax Defender didn’t begin as a company with a team and brand. It started with Pietro working solo for five years, managing every audit, every settlement, and every consultation himself.

Eventually, the demand for ethical, effective, and empathetic tax guidance grew. That’s when the couple expanded the company into what it is today — a high-impact operation known for its results and client care.

“We’re not a law firm,” he clarifies. “We’re a strategic defense company that protects and prepares.”

A Deeply Personal Turning Point

In 2008, tragedy struck. Pietro’s brother took his own life after being weighed down by tax issues — an experience Pietro says still drives his mission today.

“I couldn’t save my brother,” he shares. “But I can fight like hell for everyone else.”

This life-altering loss gives Pietro a unique level of empathy that informs every client interaction.

Advice for Entrepreneurs: Start with Strength, Back It with Numbers

For new business owners struggling with brand traction or growth, Pietro advises a dual-focus mindset.

“You need guts to get started and data to know it’s working,” he says. “Courage and math. That’s it.”

It’s that practical mindset that has helped America’s Tax Defender guide countless entrepreneurs through some of their most difficult financial moments.

What’s Next for Pietro Canestrelli

Pietro aims to save businesses tens of millions in taxes over the next two years, using a mix of legal insight, IRS negotiation expertise, and forward-thinking tax planning.

“I’m not just fixing problems,” he says. “I’m building better futures.”
