Elaine Mingus on Why Storytelling Is the Most Underrated Business Skill

Where Pageantry and Entrepreneurship Intersect

Elaine Mingus, a former Texas pageant titleholder, built her career at the intersection of storytelling and strategy. With more than 25 years in communications, design, and digital marketing, she recognized something many overlooked: pageant women often possess powerful stories, but lack the framework to turn visibility into long-term opportunity.

That insight led to Pageantpreneur, a brand and community designed to teach women how to think like entrepreneurs while remaining rooted in authenticity. “Your story is already your brand,” Mingus explains. “Most women just don’t know how to use it intentionally.”

The Moment Authenticity Took the Lead

Mingus spent years helping others shape their message before fully embracing her own. As a mother of seven balancing business, creativity, and leadership, she struggled to articulate a cohesive identity—until one honest post changed everything.

Her message about living “in the middle” between hardship and hope resonated deeply, reaching over 1.4 million views. “That response showed me that relatability creates trust faster than perfection,” she says.

Turning Stories Into Strategy

Rather than chasing virality, Mingus focused on building repeatable systems. Coaching helped her clarify her message. Delegation freed her from burnout. And structure allowed her creativity to scale.

Those same principles now shape the Pageantpreneur Community, where women receive practical tools to organize their social media, pitch themselves to media outlets, book podcast interviews, and secure aligned sponsorships. The emphasis is not on trends, but on credibility.

Teaching Women to Think Like CEOs

Mingus believes women often underestimate the value of their lived experience. “We’re taught to minimize ourselves,” she says. “But influence grows when you take up space responsibly.”

Her approach reframes pageantry as professional development—training in communication, confidence, and visibility that can translate into business success.

Pageant CEO: A Practical Playbook

Her book, Pageant CEO, now available, outlines how women can monetize their journey through paid speaking, UGC work, collaborations, and sponsorships—without going into debt. It serves as both a mindset shift and a tactical guide.

Building a Legacy of Storytellers

With national and international workshops and partnerships with pageant directors, Mingus is scaling her mission. “This isn’t about crowns,” she says. “It’s about helping women realize that their story can open doors—for themselves and others.”
