Deidre Pujols: Redefining Purpose Through Sustainable Global Philanthropy

Deidre Pujols has spent decades at the intersection of compassion and leadership. Once known for her work alongside her then-husband, MLB legend Albert Pujols, she’s now forging a legacy that stands entirely on her own. Through her organization, Open Gate International, Deidre is transforming traditional philanthropy into a sustainable, scalable model for global impact.

A Mission Beyond Fame

After her divorce, Pujols found herself in a rare position: rediscovering her voice and purpose outside of a shared public image. “I realized I didn’t need to be part of someone else’s platform,” she says. “I’ve been serving others my whole life—this time, it’s about leading in my own name.”

Her speaking engagements on faith, human trafficking prevention, and Down syndrome advocacy evolved into something larger—a drive to help others build their own missions for good.

Building Philanthropy That Lasts

Through Open Gate International, Pujols equips vulnerable communities with life-changing vocational skills. Her programs have reached California, Cambodia, Moldova, and India—where her latest initiative is being developed in collaboration with Vision Rescue, a nonprofit operating on the ground in Mumbai and Calcutta.

Together, they’re creating a culinary training program that merges business with purpose, allowing students from all backgrounds to train side by side. “It’s not charity—it’s opportunity,” she says. “You’d never know who paid tuition and who received a scholarship. That’s dignity in action.”

The Entrepreneurial Edge of Giving

Pujols believes philanthropy should operate with the structure and discipline of business. “You can’t just have passion—you need strategy,” she explains. “Success without giving back isn’t real success.”

Her model turns philanthropy into a circular system—where those who learn, earn, and thrive are encouraged to give back and invest in others.

A Legacy of Impact

With five children and projects spanning continents, balance is key for Pujols. “If life feels chaotic, that’s your cue to pause,” she says. “You can’t pour from an empty cup.”

As she continues to grow her programs, her mission remains constant: to help people transform compassion into action and build organizations that can stand the test of time.
