Confidence Expert Sharon Hughes Shares The Secret To Changing Your Life
Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharon Hughes.
It’s an honor to speak with you today. Why don’t you give us some details about you and your story. How did you get to where you are today?
Thank you, It’s been an interesting and long journey. I’ve done just about everything from a swimwear model, to having an international home decor business, and now an author and speaker. That may sound like an incredible life, and in many ways it has been, but for decades I carried shame and brokenness from my childhood.
I had multiple abusers and never told anyone what was happening to me. It all came to a head when I was drugged at a Halloween party when I was 16 and woke up in a garage 7 hours later. When I finally got home the front door was locked. When my mother came to the door she just looked at me. She didn’t ask what happen and I didn’t receive any help or medical attention and that was the night my world changed. I believed it didn’t matter what happened to me and that I was a “throw away”.
After that I sank into a depression and desperately wanted to be loved. I thought about suicide, but at the same time I wanted a house with a picket fence and a family.
Fast forward four decades to the present and I’m sharing my faith based framework to help others let go of their past heartbreaks and change their life. It’s been a long road and a lot of hard work, but I’ve cracked the code to having confidence and a healthy self-worth and I’m on a mission to help others heal too.
I’m sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?
No, it sure hasn’t! I have a saying that I share with potential clients, “I’ll teach you to think for yourself, not against yourself” Learning to think differently is a challenge that takes discipline – kind of like working out and building muscle. It takes time and intention, but it pays an enormous reward. The faster you can learn to think differently the faster your life will change. That was the hardest part of my journey.
Let’s talk about the work you do. What do you specialize in and why should someone work with you over the competition?
I specialize in helping people let go of their past and realize they have the power to change their lives regardless of the nightmares they’ve lived through. I offer courses, one-on-one coaching, and my book, The Girl In The Garage: 3 Steps To Letting Go Of Your Past is written workbook style to help readers get a breakthrough fast.
Since I have walked through some pretty rough stuff I understand firsthand how hard this is and what needs to happen in order to change.
What’s your best piece of advice for readers who desire to find success in their life?
You’ll find success when you learn to love yourself and others, and when you forgive yourself and others. It’s easier said than done. So many people have an unhealthy view of themselves. How we view ourselves skews how we see others; both good and bad.
Speaking of success, what does the word mean to you?
I think success is that feeling when you crawl into bed at night and you know you gave the day your best. You’ve forgiven yourself, and all who hurt you, and you decide to choose love. There’s so much peace with that.
What’s next for you?
I’m planning to launch a confidence tour and I’m working on my next book, Called To Confidence which is the same name as my podcast.
