Today we’d like to introduce you to Rashika Hayes.
It’s an honor to speak with you today. Why don’t you give us some details about you and your story. How did you get to where you are today?
My name is Rashika, owner of Shikouture Women’s Boutique. The name Shikouture is part of my name and couture together. Couture means fashionable made-to-measure clothes, so when you put it together it’s my nickname Shika, but drop the A, and instead of spelling couture, with a C spell it with a K, and it’s pronounced (Shi) SHē (kouture) ko͞oˈto͝o(ə)r and How I got to where I am today because I was really into fashion and shopping and obsessed with it from a very young age, in fact. I loved dressing up and loved looking at really cool designer clothes. In middle school, I took a home economics class and learned how to hand sew. I used to sew my jeans and clothes that were too big so that they would fit. My childhood dream was to make, design, model, and sell clothes and most importantly self-employment. I always wanted to be my own boss and get paid for doing a job that I absolutely love.
I’m sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?
There are a lot of challenges, I’ll touch on one. My biggest one was that moment of Fear. Fear of business failure was holding me back early on and I was battling self-doubt, but excited about becoming an entrepreneur so how I overcame fear and got to where I am today was believing in my skills and vision and was willing to learn from setbacks. Failure is only the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently. I made a promise to myself to not give up no matter what happened, I did not give up. I have started over and over again because I’ve learned that life comes with problems and wishing them away doesn’t work. Never giving up has uncovered reserves of strength I never knew I had. I learn something new, and surprise myself daily with strength and abilities I never knew I could achieve because I decided to never give up, just keep going.

What’s your best piece of advice for readers who desire to find success in their life?
Success looks different for everyone first, know what you mean by success. In order to know if you’ll be successful you have to know how you’re defining it, know why you want it, and give yourself permission to re-evaluate and re-commit as often as you need to. If you’re truly passionate about something, then success will come, good luck.
Speaking of success, what does the word mean to you?
Success is a learning process. No one starts out being the person they need to be and have what they’re dreaming about. If you’re truly passionate about something, then success will come. It’s just a matter of time and determination, success is effort, never giving up, going back to the same effort again and again and again is the kind of persistence necessary to make your brand great, therefore you will become successful.
What’s next for you?
My passion is fashion. I want to start my very own clothing line so what’s next for me is building and launching my very own fashion clothing line every piece will be designed and created by me. Shikouture the brand is coming next.
