Exclusive Interview with Jay Staples
Today we’d like to introduce you to Jay Staples.
It’s an honor to speak with you today. Why don’t you give us some details about you and your story. How did you get to where you are today?
A whole lot of doing it wrong and finally admitting defeat to be honest. I grew up in a loving family, without their love and support I wouldn’t be talking to you today. I got into long term recovery from drugs and alcohol in October 2008, and started A Sober Caddy about 5 years ago. I grew up in advertising, marketing, and golf family so I just used my expertise and knowledge to designing A Sober Caddy to be an All-Encompassing Creative Agency. We work with facilities, communities, and clients to rewrite stories. Working with athletes, executives, and families on a 1-1 basis. We also help facilities in substance abuse/mental health industry with marketing, branding, and Executive Hiring.
I’m sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?
Me. (laughing) This past year has taught us all something I’m sure. The challenges I see are self inflicted. Fear of failure is one I always face head on. Loyalty is precious, I’ve learned to not allow loyalty take away from what I was hired to do. I’ve also learned to always remain the author of my story. I cannot let others write my story. I’ve also learned my story can be rewritten as often as I need it to be.
Let’s talk about the work you do. What do you specialize in and why should someone work with you over the competition?
A Sober Caddy has a long standing reputation of being ethical and straightforward when dealing with families, facilities, and clients. We work with all different types of facilities and clients, and never color outside the lines of what we can and cannot do. We guide and support, we don’t guarantee or promise anything. A Sober Caddy specializes in Crisis Intervention, Case Management, Executive Placement & Hiring, and being an All-Encompassing Creative Agency. I like to say we’re an Advertising Agency for and to the Recovery Community.
What’s your best piece of advice for readers who desire to find success in their life?
Explore and define who you really are. Not who you think you should be or do. Not what have to do or be. Once you find out who you are, your authentic self, build off and never veer off your authentic self. Embrace who you authentically are, and be authentic in everything you do. Never apologize for being authentic.
Speaking of success, what does the word mean to you?
You ask me 5 years ago, heck even last year and I would have told you success means opposite of failing. Today success means living each day authentically. To be a vulnerable and connected leader and always have my hand reached backwards to pull people up. Success doesn’t have a dollar figure attached to it.
What’s next for you?
I want to work with communities and different cultural backgrounds to help face Substance Abuse and/or mental Health issues. Find creative avenues to be a more collective resource to save lives. I want to partner with states and community organizations to build a platform to help addicts and alcoholics succeed in life. Help those struggling with mental health issues find the help they need.
Finally, how can people connect with you if they want to learn more?
Can always read more about what we offer at www.asobercaddy.com as well as www.recoveryinaction.net
I love investing and partnering with facilities, clients, and organizations so I’d love to hear peoples stories or questions.
