Today we’d like to introduce you to HENDRIXROE and Jordan McKay

It’s an honor to speak with you today. Why don’t you give us some details about you and your story. How did you get to where you are today?

HENDRIXROE is the passion of Canadian based fashion designer, Jordan Erin McKay (JEM).

It was a chance encounter with a complete stranger that inspired McKay to leave law school and follow her dreams to become a fashion designer. After a successful first season as a women’s wear line, HENDRIXROE debuted the inaugural menswear collection in the spring of 2016 at Toronto Fashion Week, to an overwhelmingly positive response. The brand has since continued to expand with larger men’s and women’s collections, and plans to incorporate accessories and children’s clothes in the near future.

Inspired by the vintage rock & roll and old Hollywood glamour icons, Jimi Hendrix and Marilyn Monroe, HENDRIXROE embodies the epitome of “glamorous rocker couture” with close attention to construction, fabric and fine lines, combining an innovative and unique perspective on the affluent and trend setting clientele

I’m sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?

I’ve been blessed to live in the amazing country Canada that has supported and empowered me as a women entrepreneur. But in March of 2019 when The world shut down I had no idea of the darkness that was to come. I was recently a proud new owner of a shop that suddenly the lights went down but the rent still had to be paid. I had to lay off all my staff and like many I was forced to stay home. That would have been the darkest time for me because not only was I shut off from production and my team, my creativity was halted because I was afraid to dream again. Then we decided to try and burn the world down with racial injustice, gender inequality and just pure evilness. How does one dream in a world so dark. It seemed like dreams were no longer a tangible reality. Hats off to all the brave humans that got up and chose to dream again. Being an artist is by no means an easy route, it takes an incredible amount of guts to wake up and see it through. Because many of the days I wanted to just pull the blanket over my head and go back to bed lol. What people don’t understand, as an artist you literally pull back the curtain and expose your soul that is not for the faint of heart, no joke.

Let’s talk about the work you do. What do you specialize in and why should someone work with you over the competition?

the word competition rubs me the wrong way because I admire every brand and every designer in the industry. I’m not out here trying to compete with anyone, I’m just blessed to wake up everyday and do what I love and pay the rent. In a world falling apart let’s not try to pin each other against one another, let’s celebrate what everyone has to give. With that being said thank you to everyone that had supported The brand and has included HENDRIXROE on their journey. When I say journey I mean the fact that you wear a piece of me, a piece of my heart is epic.

What’s your best piece of advice for readers who desire to find success in their life?

I always say when your in the right lane there’s no traffic. There’s speed bumps there’s stop signs but no traffic. The thing is you need to be brave enough to say aloud what it is you want to do and listen to no one but your heart. Once you’ve given yourself the permission to announce who you are and what you want to do there is no stopping you. Trust me the hardest part is then already done.

Speaking of success, what does the word mean to you?

In all honesty the word success brings me to tears because I feel like I’m constantly chasing a word that has nothing behind it. The word success is like a bully to me, when I live in the moment and accept the ebbs and flows of what life brings to me I get to enjoy the most beautiful outcomes of reality. The word success sucks because it has so many different meanings to so many different people that I will inevitably never live up to and that’s including myself. You know what success is? I woke up today.

What’s next for you?

What’s not.

Finally, how can people connect with you if they want to learn more?
