Purpose Producer, Dr. Nicole Roberts Jones, Teaches How To Turn Your Purpose Into Profit
Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Nicole Roberts Jones.
It’s an honor to speak with you today. Why don’t you give us some details about you and your story. How did you get to where you are today?
I started my entrepreneurship journey back in 1993 when I had the job in Hollywood I had dreamed of ever since I was 7 years old. At the time I worked for Viacom’s largest cable networks with an outreach to 89 million homes on a weekly basis. From there I worked in casting for the number one television show on Fox. Then from there, I worked with an entertainment group and what we produced generated 12.6 billion dollars annually. In conjunction with a thriving career, I was going to all the HOT Hollywood parties—bumping elbows with stars. I was living the dream. The truth was, I started to feel tormented by this dream. It was like I could hear God whispering to my soul, “Nicole, I have something more for you,” but what more could that be when I was already living everything I had ever dreamed of and loving every minute of it?
Everything I had been questioning became clear when one of my good girlfriends asked me to volunteer with her at youth program for our church. As I worked with young women that night, my soul came ALIVE! And I found myself confronted with everything I was and everything I had not yet done. But what do I call this thing? Keep in mind, this was 1993, and I had never heard of “coaching”, and I could not see how this could come with a paycheck! I realized I had a decision to make.
I’m sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?
I learned the biggest the lesson at a time that my business looked successful. This was back in 2010, 17 years after I started. Back then, I had a nonprofit working with teenage girls with 10 chapters in 10 cities throughout the country and we were growing and growing. In my coaching for profit, I had an 100% full coaching client roster. I thought, since I can’t take on anymore clients, I’ll write a book that way I can still give my principles to those I cannot coach, and when my book came out, I started getting invitations to speak all over the country.
So there I was! Doing the very thing that I had dreamed of and I loved every single minute of it. But I was only making $13,000 a year in my business.
But I also knew I needed support to coach me through adding it the right way. I didn’t have another 17 years. I wanted it to happen in 17 months. And so I hired a coach. I realized I would have to invest at the level to which I wanted to see the return.
Working with her allowed me to see areas of my brilliance that were in my blind spots. With clarity and strategy, my business went from $13,000 annually to generating over $200,000.
Let’s talk about the work you do. What do you specialize in and why should someone work with you over the competition?
I am uniquely gifted at one thing – drawing out what’s best in YOU and helping you take your Brilliance to The Bank. What this means is I am able to help you get clear on the ONE thing God created you to do in this world.
With entrepreneurs this is coaching and training to help highly skilled professionals create multiple streams of revenue from your purpose as you start or grow your business. And with corporations this translated into training & development to help employees to do meaningful purpose focused work & improving employee engagement & retention; aligning their purpose with their paycheck.
What makes me unique is my gift that translated from my TV & Film days and casting where I could see the role that fit you in a film or TV show to now being able to see your purpose and the role that is the best fit for you to make the contributions God intended for you to make in this world. It is the blending of my gifts in production, casting & coaching that makes what I do different from any other coach that is out there.
What’s your best piece of advice for readers who desire to find success in their life?
The biggest advice I would give to those who seek to get clear on their purpose and build their career or a business around it is this, your comfort and your conviction can NEVER coexist. What I have learned in my own journey is that if you are going to do something you have never done before, it will require you to acquire new tools to get it. Many want to strive to do more or be more and they want it to be easy and/or comfortable but if it is something you have never done, you need to stretch who you are to go and get it. As it says in Ephesians 3:20, if it is abundantly above all you could ever ask or think, it will require you to move beyond your bio or your resume to become a version of you that you have NOT yet become!
Speaking of success, what does the word mean to you?
Success to me, is to make God proud. That in all I do, His light shines through me so that I am giving Him a great return on His investment in me. I think many do not stop to think about how intentional God was when He gifted each of us. You have a natural propensity for somethings and you naturally love certain things, that is not a coincidence. So when you get clear on the DNA (distinct, natural, ability) God placed in you, you can live on assignment.
So that as I go after living out my assignment and holding the space that others get clear on theirs, my goal is that when I get to meet God face to face one day, He will say to me, “well done! You have made me proud!”
What’s next for you?
I am working on my next book. Excited about all the strategy I will be able to share that brings together Faith, Purpose & Profit!
