Life of a Fashion Designer – Princewill Obinna Iwueke

Today we’d like to introduce you to Princewill.

It’s an honor to speak with you today. Why don’t you give us some details about you and your story. How did you get to where you are today?

My name is Princewill Iwueke and I’m a Nigerian fashion designer. I started willzcollection a few years ago because everyone around me told me it was the only logical step based on my personal style on and off camera.

It first started like a hobby then I became very passionate about it, I started networking, meeting new lookalike friends and getting lectured both offline and online. It was a journey of too much risk but my determination is what brought me this far, I was resilient on my passion.

I’m sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?

The fashion industry is a real business industry….It isn’t only about art and fame! It is also about work and strategy. You have to know how to adapt and multitask.
That is where it becomes hard for fashion designers, you can be good with art but not with the business and that is a huge problem if you don’t know to tackle it.
I faced a lot of challenges in the business so I hired an expert to take care of that for me it started growing and reduced a lot of mistakes, I had to bring in more minds in both the design and both the business that was were I found a spot for myself.

Let’s talk about the work you do. What do you specialize in and why should someone work with you over the competition?

Okay, I am the chief designer for my brand willzcollections. I find it interesting to work with people that has an interest for art and design not just for my company, I see working with people as a means of learning and rediscovering new ideas from cultures to personal behaviour to styles and quality. I aspire to push willzcollection to a higher level so whoever wants to be a part of it is worth working with.

What’s your best piece of advice for readers who desire to find success in their life?

Prepare yourself. It’s kinda hard because you need to do many projects in short time and the materials (fabric, fabric treatment, etc) are not cheap. So… better do it with passion or not at all. All you need is creativity & time management. You have to be able to work under pressure, make it your own style, find your character! Then, you will become a successful designer. 😉

Secondly, I would say, build your network. Get connected with the right people in your field and ask them to help you to get started. This way, many opportunities will start to come in your way.

Also, build your portfolio. Do some work with top fashion designers to do that. And how will you get a chance to work with top fashion designers, it’s simple: networking. Your network is your net worth!

Speaking of success, what does the word mean to you?

Success means a lot to me because it shows the fact that my determination, my hardwork and efforts are giving results. It wasn’t easy I know how I started and trust me it was very hard, I pray in any actions I take on my designs and networks. It’s been really smooth for me these days because I work with like minded people and achievers and I’m also happy to be part of something great. I also enjoy helping new and upcoming fashion designers I think I learn from them as I teach them as well.

What’s next for you?

Fashion in Tech. Fashion has always been at the forefront of innovation — from the invention of the sewing machine to the rise of e-commerce. Like tech, fashion is forward-looking and cyclical.

The fashion sector is also one of the largest industries in the world and today, fashion technology is growing at a faster pace than ever.

Robots that sew and cut fabric, AI algorithms that predict style trends, clothes to be worn in virtual reality — an array of innovations show how technology is automating, personalizing, and speeding up the fashion space.

Seizing the opportunity to open more revenue streams and business models, fashion companies are partnering with technology providers, snapping up startups, and even building their own tech.

So that is me looking at the future of willzcollection.
