Exclusive Interview with Lakesha Maddox
Today we’d like to introduce you to Lakesha Maddox.
It’s an honor to speak with you today. Why don’t you give us some details about you and your story. How did you get to where you are today?
Hello! Well, let me say it has a journey, but when I got married that started the journey that has me at this point today. We all know the saying “there is no book that comes with children” well the same goes for marriage. Being married Trying to get use to the new life as a wife and of course still being a mother it was rough. Kids started acting out, marriage was always going through trials and tribulations. I began to feel lost, depleted, stop caring about my appearance, self-esteem (there was none), confident (I could not even take a compliment). I know some of yall can relate. I was dying, actually I was already dead just not physically, my two kids were the reason I got up out of bed most days. Then one day I woke the hell up, and said I have to change my life. Faith without works is dead. Therefore, once I had a conversation with the Lord, I got up and took my power back! Thank God I did! It still is a working progress but it is worth it for sure.
I’m sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?
The biggest challenge that I have had to overcome is ME! Getting to the root of what my triggers are, and why they are my triggers. Just looking at myself in the mirror while saying affirmations knowing I did not feel what I was saying at the moment. Learning how to be vulnerable with others and myself. Be kind to myself. Forgiving people that I know I will never receive an apology from, and still loving them. Unlearning and relearning somethings that we were taught or picked up along the way for survival. I also had to learn how to apologize genuinely especially to my children. There are habits that I am still working on, and triggers. Working on YOU is a daily job.
Let’s talk about the work you do. What do you specialize in and why should someone work with you over the competition?
I help women with children find the love they lost within. I call it “Unleash the Intimecy Within.” The only competition I have is me. My audience works with me because they can relate to prioritizing others before themselves, and not receiving the same love in return. Women are tired; we always have to be the strong ones. The head, the tail, the lender, the borrower, and your significant other still want you to throw it back in the bedroom. Listen, it is too much! It is time to take our power back; this is your season sis. You have to make this your season. Choose YOU!
What’s your best piece of advice for readers who desire to find success in their life?
Be real with yourself. If you are not OK, say that, it is OK. Be honest about your happiness. If you not happy about where you are in life, do something about it. Once you start to love and value yourself, be ready to lose people that benefited for you being at lowest. Finding your worth is not easy, you have to choose you first every day. EVERYDAY! It also has to be intentional, make time for yourself. Do not tell me you don’t have time, everyone has at least 15 minutes to spare. Have a car-therapy session, where you sit in the car quietly before you go in the house. A 15- minute walk can work wonders it gets the serotonin in your brain flowing, serotonin helps with your mood, sleep, sexual desires, and more. I have more but lastly, stop making excuses and just do it. You only get 1 life. So how long are you going to neglect yourself?
Speaking of success, what does the word mean to you?
Success means reaching new heights and levels of myself and helping others along the way.
Success is helping women reclaim their power back by Unleashing the Intimecy Within.
Success is when you was at the lowest and darkest moments of life and pulled yourself out.
Success is when you can look yourself in the mirror, say affirmations and love what you see confidently.
Success is lifting your sista up when she is down.
Success sometimes is just getting out of bed and taking a shower.
Success is being silent when you could say something petty.
