When Clemon E. Byrd looks back, the moments that shaped him most weren’t victories — they were failures. From a failed entertainment venture to losing his command as a military officer, Byrd’s career has been riddled with setbacks. But each time, he came back stronger.
Today, he is the founder of Byrdeye Investigations, an Alabama-based private investigation firm specializing in background checks for churches and businesses. His mission is simple: to protect and to serve — values ingrained from years in law enforcement and military service.
“I hated going through those moments,” Byrd admits. “But they made me better. They forced me to improve what I thought didn’t need fixing.”
From Law Enforcement to Leadership
With over 15 years at the Auburn Police Department and a deployment history in the Alabama Army National Guard, Byrd’s foundation was service. But his entrepreneurial spark grew while deployed in Kuwait, where he envisioned a way to apply his training back home.
“The idea for Byrdeye came from asking: how can I use my experience to make my community safer?”
Owning the Struggle
Byrd believes success only comes through resilience. One of his guiding philosophies comes from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.:
“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.”
This mindset turned adversity into momentum, ultimately leading to professional promotions and business growth.
Moving Forward with Purpose
Byrd’s future now includes motivational speaking, where he hopes to inspire others at a breaking point.
“Giving up isn’t an option. I’ve been knocked down, but I’ve also rebuilt. That’s the story I want others to hear.”
